The new PAM01631 pays tribute to this heritage through a remarkable technical achievement — a 31‑day power reserve, the longest ever created by Panerai. This breakthrough is the result of seven years of research by the Laboratorio di Idee, the brand’s innovation hub within its Neuchâtel manufacture. Their work builds on a lineage that began in the 1950s with the Angelus SF240 movement, whose eight‑day reserve became a benchmark of Panerai’s military instruments. Later milestones, such as the P.2002 (8‑days) and P.2003 (10‑days) calibres, continued to push the boundaries of autonomy. The new P.2031/S calibre now extends that legacy into unprecedented territory.

Housed in a 44 mm Panerai Goldtech case — a proprietary alloy enriched with copper, platinum, and silver for enhanced durability — the PAM01631 combines Italian design flair with Swiss mechanical rigour. Its skeletonized movement surrounds the four barrels containing 3.3 metres of mainsprings, arranged in series to deliver consistent torque and minimise wear. A patent‑pending Torque Limiter system selects the optimal 31‑day operating window from a potential 36 days, ensuring stable chronometry and protecting the movement from excessive tension. After 31 days, the watch deliberately stops to preserve its chronometric precision.

The open‑worked architecture is complemented by a polarized date display visible only through the aperture at 3 o’clock, while the rest of the date disc appears transparent, offering an unhindered view of the skeleton movement. It also has a curved power‑reserve indicator and Super‑LumiNova X2 accents for enhanced low‑light readability. A sapphire caseback offers a full view of the calibre’s depth and complexity.
